Another Ajax youngster dreams about moving to Arsenal

Arsenal has long been a dream club for players aspiring to play in the Premier League, and one young player has openly expressed his desire to don the Arsenal shirt.

Under the management of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal is once again establishing itself as one of the top clubs in England, rekindling the allure that was synonymous with the Arsene Wenger era.

In the recent transfer window, Arsenal secured the signing of Jurrien Timber from Ajax, a highly regarded defender in European football. While Timber has yet to feature in many games for Arsenal due to injury, his transfer has already served as an inspiration to a player at his former club, Ajax.

Jorrel Hato, a 17-year-old prospect, is one of the coveted young talents at Ajax, and he has openly confessed his aspiration to play for a top club like Arsenal.

He said, as quoted by Sport Witness:

Jurrien Timber’s return will help Mikel Arteta copy another Pep Guardiola system

Jurrien Timber’s injury in his first league game for Arsenal is a big blow to the Gunners, but he is still expected to play a significant role when he returns.

Arsenal signed the Dutch defender in the summer after his impressive performances at Ajax, and his arrival was met with excitement among the club’s fans.

However, Timber’s absence from the team has led to multiple changes in Arsenal’s defence, reverting to a formation similar to that of the previous season, with Gabriel Magalhaes partnering William Saliba at the centre of the defence.

During Timber’s first game with the club, he played as a left-back, with Saliba and Ben White as the centre-backs, and Thomas Partey slotting in as a right-back. Various changes have been witnessed in Arsenal’s lineup due to injuries and suspensions.

A report from Football Transfer suggests that Timber’s return in the second half of the season could enable Mikel Arteta to implement a defensive approach reminiscent of Pep Guardiola’s playbook. The report indicates that when Timber is fit, Arteta may opt to field four center-backs across various defensive roles, much like Guardiola does in many of his matches.

Arsenal Women captain Kim Little “Domestically, our aim is to win every trophy”

Arsenal Women captain Kim Little “Domestically, our aim is to win every trophy” by Michelle

In a recent interview Arsenal Women captain, Kim Little, makes it obvious that she’s not done yet and is eager to add to her 13 Arsenal trophies, a situation that will further cement her place on the list of Arsenal greats.
Last season, the 33-year-old achieved her 250-appearance milestone, and I’m sure she’ll want to add to that as the 2023–24 season progresses. Speaking to the Evening Standard, Little expressed her desire to lead our Gunner women to domestic glory (winning the WSL, Continental Cup, and FA League Cup), given they unfortunately did not qualify for continental football.
“Domestically, our aim is to win every trophy, and we will try and do everything we can to reach that.
“I think the quality we have in the team now and the depth, there is no reason why we shouldn’t.”
As you read this you might be disappointed our Arsenal women haven’t been at their best, going winless in two games, losing 1-0 to Liverpool, and drawing 2-2 with Manchester United after falling to Paris FC in the Champions League qualifiers. Such results make some of us wonder if our women are strong enough to thrive as we hoped. However, when we doubt them, Little says that she and the girls are eager to use their previous disappointments as motivation to improve.
“We can’t dwell on it too much, because that will hold us back. We have to use it as motivation,” added the former Scotland international.
Little has had an incredible career; she has dominated the Women’s Super League since joining Arsenal in 2008, and she has helped us win 11 titles. In 2013, she tested out for the NWSL, joining Seattle and scoring 32 goals in 63 games. She re-joined us in 2017 after spending a year with Melbourne FC. She was named the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2016, and she was awarded an MBE in January for her services to football.
So, are you confident of our Gunners winning the treble Gooners? a win against Aston Villa on Sunday would put is the right direction at last huh?

Eidevall gives us the latest update on Arsenal Women’s Beth Mead injury front

Positive injury news for the Arsenal Women

Jonas Eidevall faced the press ahead of our games against Aston Villa this weekend, and was asked about Beth Mead and the latest on her recovery process after Arsenal Women posted photos of Mead in training via their official twitter page and had Arsenal fans excited at the prospect of finally seeing Mead back on the pitch. Mead has been absent since tearing her ACL against Manchester United last season and missed the opportunity to represent her country at this year’s Women’s World Cup.

When asked if Mead would be ready to play this Sunday, https://www.arsenal.com/news/every-word-jonas-pre-aston-villa-presser” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>Eidevall said this: “In order for squad selection, we have one more training to go. If she goes through that training session, she should be 100 per cent ready for squad selection”.

It’s been no secret that her recovery process has been difficult on her mental health as well as her physical health and after a long hard process back to recovery, she will be stoked to finally get back to what she loves doing the most.

When asked how much work Mead has done to cope with the psychologically pressure of getting back on the pitch, Eidevall said this: “I think, and this is probably where elite sport has changed a lot in the last decade, where mental training before was used for a team that was struggling, who said they needed a mental coach because they were under a lot of pressure.”

As Canada Explores Carbon Capture, Experts Warn of Health Risks

This story was originally published by Canada’s National Observer and is reproduced here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration.

A little over three years ago, a menacing fog crept into the valley surrounding the small village of Satartia, Missisippi, causing a mass poisoning. Within minutes of breathing the air, residents choked and dropped to the ground. Nearly 50 people were hospitalized.

First responders didn’t know the calamity was caused by a carbon dioxide pipeline failing, but clues were there as they struggled to get to the scene. Gas-powered vehicles couldn’t move, and some people lay in the streets struggling to breathe. Jack Willingham, the emergency director for the town’s county, told NPR, “It looked like you were going through the zombie apocalypse.” And he told HuffPost that despite the disaster, the village was in fact lucky because if the wind had blown differently or the incident had happened when people were sleeping, there would have been deaths.

The havoc that day was caused by a rupture in a carbon dioxide pipeline that shot a massive white cloud of concentrated CO2 into the air in a dangerous rolling fog. Because CO2 displaces oxygen and oxygen is needed for gas-powered cars to work, vehicles wouldn’t run. Because CO2 is heavier than air, the thick fog didn’t dissipate but settled on the ground where its lethal potential was narrowly avoided.

At Frieze London, Heavyweights and Rising Names Compete for Top Sales

This week, art world cognoscenti reconvened for the opening of Frieze London at the city’s Regent’s Park. 130 galleries, ranging from megas to smaller-scale outfits, brought presentations spotlighting established artists like Gerhard Richter and Louise Borgeois, as well as more emerging artists. This year’s edition of the fair, its twentieth, was actually smaller than 2022, when 160 galleries participated.

Frieze, owned by US-based media and entertainment company Endeavor since 2016, has pledged to grow its fairs. Earlier this year, the company acquired EXPO Chicago and the Armory Show and it recently held its second edition of Frieze Seoul.

In the days leading up to Frieze’s VIP preview on Wednesday, Hamas launched an assault on southern Israel, leading the country to initiate a bombing campaign of the Gaza Strip. Yet, even as the news rang heavy over the trade event, it did little to interrupt business. Transactions at Frieze moved at a steady pace, as galleries reported collectors purchasing works at competitive price points mostly in the six-figures; only a select few reached the low millions.

In a statement, Ivan Wirth, Hauser and Wirth’s president, said “astute” collectors are becoming less fixated on younger artists and more are shifting attention back towards the practices of late-career or deceased artists with “radical” qualities.

Established figures like Wolfgang Tilmans, Antony Gormley, John Akomfrah, Barbara Chase-Riboud and Tracey Emin were among the critical darlings who surfaced at the fair. Alongside them were curators like Christopher Bedford, Nicola Lees; Sohrab Mohebbi; Clara Kim; Alexandra Munroe and Robert Rosenkranz; Maria Balshaw; Alex Farquharson; Hans Ulrich Obrist.

UNESCO Unveils Design of First Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects

UNESCO’s forthcoming virtual museum of stolen cultural objects is one step closer to reality.

UNESCO (short for The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has partnered with Interpol, among other as foreign parties, to develop the $2.5 million museum, with the first round of funding being provided by Saudi Arabia.

In an announcement, UNESCO said, “The virtual museum will be a game-changing tool to raise awareness on the illicit trafficking and the importance of protecting cultural heritage among the relevant authorities, culture professionals and the general public, notably young generations.”

The museum was announced in September 2022, and last week the agency unveiled its schematic design by Burkina Faso–born architect Francis Kéré, winner of the 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize.

“For this project, we needed an architect capable of rewriting the traditional playbook, who could design spaces while thinking outside the box, who could intimately link the material with the immaterial,” Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO director-general, told Artnet News.
