Gary Neville has once again offered advice to Gareth Southgate on how to utilise Declan Rice, who is struggling to perform well for England at Euro 2024.
Rice is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe, but England is having difficulty getting the best out of him in the tournament. Considering his impressive form for Arsenal in the recently concluded season, he was expected to be a key player for the Three Lions in their quest for success.
However, after two matches, England’s prospects look in question and there are concerns that they might not even survive their first knockout game. This raises fears of another lost generation in English football, and Rice, in particular, cannot be proud of his performances so far.
Neville believes the midfielder has struggled because of the way he is being used by Southgate and said, as quoted by The Irish Independent:
“Mikel Arteta (Arsenal manager) moved Declan Rice out of that position (No.6) for the last 15 games of the season to bring in Jorginho and Thomas Partey, because he’s not that good at playing there.

Arsenal has the opportunity to sign Jonathan David for a reduced fee this summer as Lille prepares to cash in on the striker.
David has been one of the top performers in Europe over the last few seasons, consistently contending for the leading scorer title in France. The brilliance of Kylian Mbappe has prevented him from winning the top scorer award, but the Canadian remains one of the finest attackers in Ligue 1.
Every summer, David is linked with a move to a top club like Arsenal, but he has stayed at Lille. However, with his contract expiring in 2025, Lille is now eager to sell him while they can and have set a reasonable asking price for his signature.
According to Talk Sport, Lille is prepared to sell him for around £30 million, significantly less than his valuation last summer.

On Skidaway Island, off the coast of Georgia, “not one blade of grass feels out of place.” Giant oak trees provide shade from the heat. Nature surrounds you, but as Center for Public Integrity reporter Alexia Fernández Campbell describes, it “seems to have been tamed to become amenities” for The Landings, a gated community that takes up half of the island.
The average price of a home in The Landings was more than $800,000 in 2022. The community boasts a spa, four clubhouses, five swimming pools, and six golf courses. Although Black people are the majority in nearby Savannah, on Skidaway Island 93 percent of the population is white.
It’s hard to tell now, but this wealthy white enclave used to be home to a Black utopia. In 1865, a promise was made to newly freed people, the promise of “40 acres and a mule.” For thousands, that was made real. The Center for Public Integrity found that at least 99 men and women were issued federal documents entitling them to land on the island. But as the latest episode of Reveal details, it was later all taken back from them as white Southerners sought pardons from President Andrew Johnson, who granted many of them and returned plantations back to the enslavers.
“You could feel chills to know that they had it and then they just pulled the rug from under them, so to speak,” said Linda Brown, one of the few Black residents at The Landings.

Jermaine Jenas was impressed with William Saliba’s performance in France’s goalless draw against the Netherlands and is puzzled by the criticisms the Arsenal defender receives.
Saliba has been a starter for France at Euro 2024 and appears to have finally won over Didier Deschamps, his national team manager.
The defender started in their games against Austria and the Netherlands, but he experienced some shaky moments that were highlighted in those matches.
Despite having a largely impressive game against the Netherlands, some fans pointed out at least one mistake that could have led to a goal.
Regardless of these opinions, Saliba remains a highly-rated player, and Jermaine Jenas is baffled by the criticism directed at him.

This weekend marks the official start of summer, and it’s shaping up to be a scorcher. The extreme heat that’s afflicted much of the eastern United States this week is set to continue, with temperatures hitting the mid to upper 90s in the Midwest and the Mid Atlantic regions. The National Weather Service reports that temperatures in the Midwest are “anomalous and dangerous for early Summer.” In the Southeast, temperatures could exceed 110 degrees. Making matters worse, overnight temps are expected to stay high, allowing little relief to those without access to air conditioning.
According to climate scientists at World Weather Attribution, we’ve largely done this to ourselves. Their recent report found that in the year 2000, this level of heat was only expected to occur once in a lifetime for those living in North and Central America. Now, “on average a person will experience it 5 or 6 times in their lifetime.” That uptick is driven by “fossil fuel driven warming,” which has made the heatwaves we’re experiencing in this region 35 times more likely to occur.
Black people in the US are 40 percent more likely than other racial groups to live in areas “with the highest projected increases in extreme temperature related deaths.”
“As long as humans fill the atmosphere with fossil fuel emissions, the heat will only get worse,” stated one of the report’s authors, Izidine Pinto, a researcher at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, adding that “vulnerable people will continue to die.”

Leandro Trossard is among the Arsenal stars facing criticism for their performances at Euro 2024.
The Belgian ended last season in fine form for Arsenal as the Gunners nearly won the Premier League.
However, Belgium started their Euro 2024 campaign with a shock 1-0 loss to Slovakia, leading to widespread criticism of their players.
Belgium’s squad includes top club-level talents like Jeremy Doku and Kevin de Bruyne, making the result of their first game particularly surprising.
All their stars have faced criticism at home for failing to meet expectations, with Trossard also under fire.

Arsenal star Declan Rice has openly criticised his performance against Denmark as England continues to underperform at Euro 2024.
Despite being pre-tournament favourites, Gareth Southgate’s team is struggling, and their chances of reaching the semi-finals appear uncertain.
Rice has been starting in a midfield trio alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham, but their effectiveness has been questioned after lacklustre performances.
Acknowledging his own shortcomings, Rice, regarded as one of Europe’s top midfielders, admitted he did not perform at his best for his country following England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark.
The midfielder said, as quoted by 90Mins:
