Ramble Reacts: England’s outsiders make their case

It’s a Lions Watch takeover on today’s Ramble Reacts, as Marcus and Luke discuss the opening act of England’s Hot Girl Summer. If ever you needed proof that this team mean business: they beat two sides in one go last night. Kapow, take that.

The boys chat about whether the likes of Eberechi Eze and Jack Grealish will snag a seat on the plane and ask if that slight lack of spark or invention was just down to end-of-season fatigue, or something more concerning. Plus, we’re split down the middle on Ollie Watkins vs Ivan Toney!

Romano delivers fresh update on Sesko’s stance after Arsenal sent him proposal

Benjamin Sesko is currently receiving significant attention from numerous clubs, including Arsenal, who have extended an offer for his services.

The Slovenian striker has made a name for himself as one of the top young talents in football and has been in excellent form for RB Leipzig.

Leipzig is keen on retaining Sesko, recognising their good fortune in having him within their ranks and is determined to keep him beyond this summer.

Arsenal, in need of a new goalscorer, views Sesko as an ideal fit for their team.

However, they face stiff competition as many other clubs are also eager to secure Sesko’s signature, making the battle for his services highly competitive.

Ben Jacobs gives an update on Arsenal’s interest in Leicester City star

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is one of several players who have been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months.

The Gunners first wanted to sign him after Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League.

The midfielder has been one of their most successful academy graduates in recent times, and he stayed with them through the Championship spell.

His contributions to their success are one of the reasons they earned instant promotion to the English top flight.

Arsenal continues to show interest in his signature, with Chelsea also now in the running.

Arsenal abandoning their pursuit of Spanish midfielder

According to journalist Christian Falk, Arsenal is withdrawing its interest in Martin Zubimendi.

The midfielder has been on the Gunners’ radar since 2022, when he was impressing at Real Sociedad.

Zubimendi is one of the most sought-after midfielders in European football, and Arsenal had been eager to add him to their squad.

The Spaniard also attracted interest from other top clubs, including Barcelona. Initially, Mikel Arteta’s team appeared to be the frontrunners, with reports indicating they were prepared to meet his €60 million release clause.

Despite this, Falk has revealed that Arsenal is no longer pursuing Zubimendi and is cooling their interest in the midfielder.

He said, as quoted by The Sun:

Cazorla breaks his silence on a potential Arsenal return as he nears retirement

Santi Cazorla is set to retire from professional football at the end of this month after a stint at his boyhood club, Real Oviedo.

The Spanish midfielder has enjoyed a long and distinguished career, which includes notable spells at Arsenal and Villarreal.

Cazorla remains a fan favourite at Arsenal, and many supporters would welcome him back in a non-playing capacity.

He has been linked with a return to the Emirates on several occasions and has admitted that Arsenal would welcome him back if he chose to return.

For now, however, Cazorla is focused on his current club, despite his imminent retirement in a few days.

The midfielder told Sky Sport:

Declan Rice reacts to England’s shock loss to Iceland

Declan Rice has admitted he is hurt by England’s 1-0 loss to Iceland ahead of Euro 2024.

The Three Lions, considered one of the favourites to win the competition, were expected to secure a straightforward victory against Iceland following Gareth Southgate’s announcement of his final squad for the tournament.

However, England struggled to break down Iceland, who clinched the game with an early goal, leaving both the players and fans disappointed.

Rice, a key player for England expressed his disappointment over the loss, acknowledging the pain it caused him.

England’s defeat is not good for their confidence ahead of their opening match in the tournament, and Rice said, as quoted by 90mins:

Saliba rates himself among the top three Premier League defenders

William Saliba has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and the Frenchman recognises his highly-rated status.

Saliba has been with Arsenal since 2019, but it wasn’t until 2022 that he earned Mikel Arteta’s full trust.

The Spaniard had sent Saliba out on loan on at least two occasions before finally integrating him into the first team.

When Saliba debuted for Arsenal in the 2022/2023 season, his impact was immediate, effectively turning Arsenal into title challengers.

The Frenchman’s injury towards the end of the 2022/2023 season is widely regarded as a key reason why the Gunners missed out on winning the Premier League.

In the following campaign, Saliba continued to improve and helped Arsenal challenge for the title once again. He now sees himself as one of the top three defenders in the league.

Crystal Palace determined to keep Arsenal target despite £60million valuation

Michael Olise may be disappointed to have missed out on the France squad for Euro 2024, which could prompt him to consider leaving Crystal Palace.

The winger is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s top players in his position, having delivered impressive performances towards the end of the season.

Many anticipated his inclusion in the France squad for the Euros, but he was ultimately overlooked, potentially prompting thoughts of a club switch.

With a £60 million release clause in his current Palace contract, Olise’s departure could be straightforward for interested clubs.

Olise might view a move to a bigger club as an opportunity to enhance his chances in international football.

Which home-grown player is most likely to leave Arsenal this summer?

Arsenal is poised to offload at least one homegrown player in this transfer window as Mikel Arteta continues to refine his squad.

The Gunners have made significant investments to secure several top talents in recent transfer windows.

Under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, who has been excelling as the club’s manager, Arsenal is receiving ample support to sustain their progress.

This summer, Arsenal must sell players to generate funds for potential acquisitions, which may come at inflated costs given the club’s status as one of England’s top teams.

Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, and Eddie Nketiah are three homegrown talents who have struggled to secure consistent playing time as the team evolves.

Pundit says Celtic can only sign Kieran Tierney on loan

Alan Hutton has discussed the future of Kieran Tierney after his return to Arsenal from his loan spell at Real Sociedad.

Tierney is now seeking a new destination as he is no longer in Arsenal’s plans at the Emirates.

The left-back was regarded as one of the best in the Premier League three seasons ago, but over the last two campaigns, he has struggled to maintain his form.

While at Sociedad, Tierney performed decently, though injuries limited his playing time, likely contributing to the Spanish club’s decision not to pursue a permanent deal.

Now, Tierney is determined to secure a new club, but there are currently no takers for his signature.

Arsenal refuses to meet striker release clause to sign him

Victor Osimhen has emerged as the preferred number nine for Arsenal to potentially sign this summer, but the transfer is far from straightforward.

The Nigerian striker is anticipated to depart Napoli soon after agreeing to a contract extension that includes a release clause.

Having established himself as one of the top strikers in recent seasons, Arsenal sees Osimhen as a player capable of making a significant impact for them.

While Arsenal has several forwards on their radar, Osimhen has evidently impressed them the most.

However, Napoli insists on the payment of his release clause before his departure, set at €130 million.
