Do Arsenal need to be on the hunt for a new centre-back?

Arsenal’s center-back position is one that could need to be addressed. When Emmanuel Petit recently claimed that Arsenal defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were playing averagely, some didn’t take him seriously.

Now, days after Petit’s claims, another Arsenal legend, Alan Smith, has come out to expose the concerns he has about Arsenal’s defense. Smith has called out Gabriel as a loophole in Arsenal’s defense, and he feels he fails Arteta in big games.

“Gabriel would be a concern for Arteta in the future,” said Smith on BestGamblingsites (via MSN)

“He can be so emotional on these occasions, and that can affect his game. If you look at Saliba, you hardly notice him because he’s so calm.

“He does the simple things really effectively. Whereas Gabriel catches the eye for a number of reasons and I think it’s something Arteta will consider if he can rely on him going into these big games.

“We wanted a title race” Joe Cole reacts to Arsenal’s win against Aston Villa

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole believes Arsenal’s 4-2 win against Aston Villa means we are now in a proper title race.

Manchester City had overtaken the Gunners earlier after beating Mikel Arteta’s side, but the Gunners are back at the top after the win, with City dropping points against Nottingham Forest.

The two clubs have continued to chase each other and much credit must be given to Arsenal, who have done very well to hold their own in the competition so far.

After the game, Cole said via the Daily Mail:

‘Fantastic. We wanted a title race and Arsenal have given it. Asked a lot of questions about this team over the past six months. About their character. Their personality.

Keown reflects on Arsenal’s performance against Aston Villa

Martin Keown has hailed Arsenal for their performance against Aston Villa in the Premier League this afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side faced a tough test against the Villans after enduring a rough run of form.

The Gunners were winless in three league games before the match and were under pressure to perform.

Villa had extra motivation with Unai Emery returning to his former club after his sacking by the Gunners in 2019.

However, Arsenal recovered from their bad form and a poor start to win the game, which delighted Keown.

Arsenal and Villa analysts clash after Jorginho goal

Analysts for Arsenal and Aston Villa clashed during the Gunners’ 4-2 win over Unai Emery’s side, according to reports.

The Gunners secured the victory despite being 2-1 down at half-time and now are back on top of the league table before Manchester City plays.

Standard Sports reports that when Jorginho’s shot went in off Emi Martinez, it sparked a commotion in the press box and Arsenal analyst Miguel Molina and Victor Manas of Villa clashed and had a go at each other.

The situation was eventually diffused when Molina left for another section of the box.

Martin Keown mocks Martinez after his own goal

Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has mocked Emi Martinez after he scored an own goal in Arsenal’s 4-2 win against Aston Villa today.

The game seemed to be heading for another Arsenal defeat, but the Gunners came back from 2-1 down to win.

With the match finely poised at 2-2, Jorginho let fly from distance and it cannoned off the woodwork only to hit Martinez and go in to give Arsenal a 3-2 lead.

The Gunners then scored another late goal from a sweet counter-attack and Keown was delighted Martinez conceded that goal.

He said via Standard Sport:

Journalists insists Arsenal are missing Partey despite beating Aston Villa

Arsenal earned a 4-2 win against Aston Villa this afternoon, with Jorginho continuing in place of Thomas Partey in the starting lineup.

Partey has missed the Gunners’ last two matches due to an injury problem and the Ghanaian midfielder has been a notable absentee.

The Gunners added Jorginho to their squad in the last transfer window and the experienced Italy international had a good game against the Villans.

However, Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel still believes they missed the influence and authority of Partey in their midfield.

He writes in his column:

“Best league in the world” Romano reacts to Arsenal thriller

Fabrizio Romano was delighted to have watched Arsenal’s thrilling 4-2 win at Aston Villa this afternoon and admits it is the reason the Premier League is the best in the world.

Villa went into the break 2-1 up after Ollie Watkins and Philippe Coutinho scored either side of a Bukayo Saka goal.

It seemed Unai Emery would earn a win in his first match against Arsenal as Villa’s boss, but Arsenal showed great character in the second half to turn it around with three goals.

It was a contest that could have gone either way and until Gabriel Martinelli scored the last goal, no one knew how the fixture would end.

After the game, Romano tweeted:

Thankyou Emi Martinez – Arsenal back on top after late Villa win

Unai Emery may have thought he had Arsenal under control after outplaying Arteta’s men in the first half, with his side leading by two goals (Watkins and Coutinho) to one (by Saka), but how things can change. The Gunners came from behind to win, as Champions do, with two late goals after the 90th minute.

Thank you, Emi Martinez- Two errors by the Villa goalkeeper award Arsenal three points and a spot at the top of the league log (a spot they had lost since Wednesday’s loss to defending champions Manchester City).

They are still waiting for the Manchester City result to see where they will be in the league table this week. Will Arsenal fight until the bitter end, or will Manchester City take it away?

Of course, they will fight until the bitter end, and Arteta’s post-Villa victory statement says it all, as he admits he and his team know what it takes to be at the top.

“Well, if you want to be at the top, you have to win games in many, many different ways. You’re going to have to score goals in the 94th minute, sometimes play with 10 men, and have comeback results. To do it against this team in this stadium, it’s a real credit to the boys,” Arteta said in the postmatch press conference.

“Heart, desire, character” Piers Morgan reacts to Arsenal’s win against Aston Villa

Piers Morgan has praised Arsenal’s heart, desire and character after they came from behind to beat Aston Villa in the Premier League this afternoon.

Unai Emery had hoped he would earn a win against his former club and Arsenal’s form before the game would have encouraged him.

Villa even went into the break 2-1 up, which made some Arsenal fans panic, but the Gunners took over in the second half and scored thrice to show they still have the desire to win the league.

After the victory, Morgan tweeted:

“FT: 4-2.

The Football Ramble’s Guide To… Wayne Rooney’s England career

Remember the name: Wayne Rooney.

Marcus and Luke look back over the international career of one of England’s greatest ever footballers, twenty years on from his bizarre debut as one of eleven substitutes (thank Sven for that one). We track his iconic rise to the very top at Euro 2004 and the erratic mix of injuries, ill-tempered spats and undeniable magic that followed - as well as that time he called David Beckham a flash git.

The Ramble: Dyche Dyche Baby

What’s that saying? You can take the man out of Burnley, but you can’t take aggressively upsetting the big boys out of Sean Dyche. Told ya!

Marcus, Pete, Jim and David get stuck into that and loads of other big results, as Spurs did Arsenal a favour and Liverpool slip further into trouble. On more familiar ground, Pete’s glad that Newcastle dropped some points - some things never change.
