Can I bring my wee mate?

Everyone wants to bring a wee mate with them on deadline day, right? This year, the end of the window actually threw up some fascinating storylines for some big names, including Jadon Sancho switching one frying pan for another, slightly less hot frying pan.

Marcus, Luke and Jim catch up with the best of the headlines. We discuss Raheem Sterling (and soon Harry Kane’s) move to Eng- I mean Arsenal. We also assess whether Sancho can reignite his career and whether Ivan Toney has killed his off once and for all after moving to Saudi Arabia. Plus - shockingly - someone actually, willingly signed Neal Maupay. Who knew?

An ice bucket of Carabao

What a time to be alive, it’s the Carabao Cup second round! Like all of last night’s fixtures, Marcus, Jim and Luke start today’s show by continuing to pay tribute to the great Sven-Göran Eriksson.

Elsewhere, Luke and Jim explain why Manuel Ugarte could be a great signing, not just for Man United but also the Ramble. Plus, a local council leader in Wolverhampton has responded to Noni Madueke and we learn that Andros Townsend currently is being held hostage in Turkey. At least the weather is nice, we suppose.

Mailbag: What’s the toughest job in world football?

Mikel Arteta hits out at inconsistency of decisions after Arsenal draw against Brighton

Mikel Arteta is unhappy with the lack of consistency in decision-making in the Premier League after more drama cost Arsenal two points against Brighton this afternoon.

The Gunners were leading the game 1-0 before Declan Rice was sent off for a second bookable offence when the referee deemed him to have delayed the restart of play.

It was the softest of yellow cards, and the sending-off hurt Arsenal, who eventually conceded an equalising goal.

Earlier in the game, a Brighton player kicked the ball out of play after the referee’s whistle had blown, but they were not cautioned, even though they should have been.

The decision to send Rice off has been met with widespread criticism, and Mikel Arteta admits it is frustrating when decisions are not consistent.

Arsenal v Brighton Review – Tough point earned after Declan Rice red-carded

We had yet another must win game at home to unbeaten Brighton, and the only change from Villa was Trossard starting against his old side.

Arsenal started purposefully and went straight in the attack, but with a few stray passes which dampened our pressure, but Raya didnt have much to for the first 15 minutes except for a couple of weak efforts from the Seagulls.

The 17th minute saw out captain Martin Odegaard given a gilt edged chance just a few yards out but didnt catch it right and the keeper easily saved it.

The next 20 mins saw 80% possession for the Gunners before Brighton had a small flurry of action in our half. A few minutes later and there was panic in the Arsenal box as a headed clearance mistake from Havertz saw the ball land at Mitoma’s left foot, but luckily he scuffed his shot.

It was not long after that a a bit of brilliant skill from Saka saw him send the ball over the defence to a running Havertz, who calmly lobbed the ball over the keeper to give us a well deserved lead.

Let’s all hope that Thomas Partey’s last season at Arsenal is a good one…

Thomas Partey’s tenure at the Emirates Stadium is coming to an end. The Arsenal midfielder is in his contract’s final year. Arsenal’s decision to allow him to be in such a situation clearly indicated that they were unsure about keeping him long-term.

The idea was that if Partey could stay fit, he’d have a chance to land a new contract. Many believe Arsenal is hesitant to offer him a new contract due to fitness concerns.

Interestingly, the former Atletico Madrid player has tried to maintain his condition in recent months. Partey has remained fit after playing the last five Arsenal league games of last season, two World Cup qualifiers for Ghana, and a full pre-season. Staying fit has also allowed him to start all of Arsenal’s games this season.

Partey fans may have been confident that he would eventually earn a new contract at Emirates Stadium if he remained fit. Unfortunately, that may not be the case. Following Mikel Merino’s signing, Football Transfers claims Arsenal has already decided upon Partey’s future.

The club appears to be so determined to part ways with him that for £15 million they may even do so during the winter transfer window. If these claims are accurate, Gunners should savour every time they watch Partey, who is on his last dance at Arsenal.

Martin Keown believes the referee influenced Arsenal’s draw against Brighton

Arsenal drew their Premier League game against Brighton today, 1-1, at the Emirates, and the Gooners are unhappy with the performance of referee Chris Kavanagh.

The Gunners started the season with two wins from two, defeating Aston Villa away before hosting the similarly in-form Brighton at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s side was eager to win and maintain their winning run, but Brighton is a tough team.

Arsenal has always struggled to beat the Seagulls, and they knew it would be a very difficult game.

Arteta’s side did everything they could to overpower the Seagulls, but Brighton remained competitive, and the game ended 1-1.

“We can take it both ways” Saka reacts to Arsenal’s draw against Brighton

Bukayo Saka has reacted to Arsenal’s draw against Brighton this afternoon, admitting that the game could have gone either way.

It was a tough match for the Gunners, who had won their previous games of the season, including a challenging encounter at Villa Park.

Brighton came to London with the mission of halting Arsenal’s winning run, and the Seagulls succeeded as Mikel Arteta’s men struggled after the sending-off of Declan Rice.

Most Arsenal fans viewed the dismissal as unfair, and it certainly changed the complexion of the game.

However, even without Rice, Arsenal still had chances to win, with Saka missing a golden opportunity to give them the lead.

Ally McCoist says Arsenal should be happy they got a point against Brighton

Former Rangers idol Ally McCoist believes Arsenal will eventually view their draw against Brighton as a point gained.

The Gunners dropped two points and lost their 100 percent record against a very stubborn Brighton side.

The Seagulls had also won both their matches before this fixture, and they were expected to put up a good fight at the Emirates.

They did just that, frustrating Arsenal and earning a point on their travels to a tough ground.

Mikel Arteta’s side may feel they could have taken more than a point, and their fans are unhappy with the inconsistent decisions during the game.

Brighton manager says they are disappointed to have not beaten Arsenal

As if earning a draw weren’t impressive enough, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has claimed that his team is disappointed they did not defeat Arsenal when both clubs met in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Gunners faced a Brighton side that has made a fantastic start to the season, and the Seagulls proved they are more than just a hyped opponent.

Mikel Arteta’s side were the favourites heading into the fixture, but everyone knew that Brighton was an opponent to take seriously.

The Seagulls capitalised on Declan Rice’s red card to secure a draw, and they could have won the game, having dominated the closing stages.

However, Arsenal held on, and Hurzeler believes his team could have done more. He later admitted that they would still accept a share of the spoils as a fair reward.

Premier League explains why Declan Rice was sent off against Brighton

The Premier League has released a statement explaining why Declan Rice was sent off for a second bookable offense against Brighton.

The midfielder received his first red card as an Arsenal player after being judged to have tried to stop the restart of the game during the fixture.

Since Rice had already been cautioned earlier, the referee had no choice but to send him off.

However, replays showed that he did not make a deliberate attempt to block the restart, a view shared by most observers.

Despite this, the Premier League, in their explanation of the incident, insisted that Rice was cautioned for attempting to block the restart, which led to his second yellow card.

Arsenal might have to deal with a Reiss Nelson transfer saga next summer again

Reiss Nelson made a late move to Fulham on loan from Arsenal, which paved the way for the Gunners to pursue Raheem Sterling.

Nelson has struggled for game time at the Emirates and was one of the players Arsenal was willing to sell during the transfer window.

However, he found it difficult to secure a permanent transfer, forcing Arsenal to abandon their efforts to offload him.

When Sterling became available for transfer in the final hours of deadline day, Arsenal sought to sign him and began exploring options for Nelson.

A potential move to Ipswich Town fell through, but Fulham quickly added him to their squad.

“It taught me” Nketiah sends a message to Arsenal after moving to Crystal Palace

Eddie Nketiah has penned an open letter to Arsenal after completing his move to Crystal Palace.

The striker has been in the spotlight all summer as various clubs attempted to sign him from Arsenal before he ultimately moved to Palace.

Nketiah struggled for playing time at the Emirates, falling behind Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz in the pecking order.

Mikel Arteta was willing to let him leave the club, even though Arsenal did not sign a replacement, and Nketiah has now sent a message to his former team.

Having been developed at the club’s Hale End Academy, Nketiah boasts one of the best goalscoring records among England’s youth team players.
