Let’s all make some noise for Arsenal Women at Emirates – Are you going to be singing, Gooners?

The buildup to this London derby has been astonishing, with Arsenal Women likely to  sell-out Emirates tomorrow, as our Gunners take on the reigning WSL champions Chelsea and our biggest rival for the WSL title. The event will be recorded in history as the first ever sell-out of the main stadium by any women’s football team in WSL history,( if the stadium is sold-out..)
Will you be Loud and Proud for our Gunners at Emirates Stadium tomorrow? When I was at the Emirates for Arsenal v Chelsea on 15th January this year it felt very quiet around me..
We need to get behind our Gunners tomorrow! wherever you’re sitting in the stadium we all need to sing, chant and make noise with everyone else. Do you think we can make it as loud as a men’s game and be the 13th player?
At the last match the attendance was over 46,000 – this time we may hit the magic sell-out number – the same as Arsenal Women did in the UWCL semi-final against Wolfsburg at Emirates on 1st May this year.
Maybe it was just where I was sitting last year? Club Level Clock End. I know Block 2 is the loudest and most atmospheric as that’s where the Red & White Army sit, so anywhere near there is a good choice I guess?
I am going with my 2 daughters and granddaughter tomorrow. I’m hoping where we are sat is a bit louder. We know some of the chants but no one around us was singing them. We are Top Tier Block 102 – Block 102 can we sing please?
Also all Gooners next to the away block need to go for it to drown out the Blues!
An Arsenal win tomorrow will put us into 2nd place (we dropped to 3rd in the WSL today after Man City beat Aston Villa 2-1) but a win would put us on the same points as Chelsea and in a very solid place from which to fight all the way for that WSL title!
So excited for this match! Are you planning on make some noise? Can anyone tell us where we can find the word for all the songs please?
The match kicks-off at 12.30pm UK. It was be shown live on BBC2.

COYG!

Tomiyasu explains why Odegaard is the perfect Arsenal captain “we love him a lot”

Don’t some revelations make us appreciate our gunners even more? The most recent of such amazing findings concerns Martin Odegaard. Takehiro Tomiyasu has lavished praise on his Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard, revealing that the Norwegian international has impressed him with how intelligent he is and always knows what to do on the pitch.

Last season, he enjoyed his greatest season in Arsenal colors, with 15 goals and 7 assists in 37 games. He has 4 goals and 2 assists this season, which isn’t terrible considering he initially struggled to find his rhythm. It was revealed that he was playing with discomfort and that he may have been playing while not 100% before he was sidelined due to injury.

Also he has scored two goals in four games since Arsenal’s return to the Champions League following a seven-year absence.

Tomiyasu, who is presently injured, expressed his admiration for the Norwegian, whose professionalism on and off the field is unparalleled. When asked if he has ever played with a player with such ability like Odegaard befpre, Tomi said: “No, he is so intelligent, and he knows what to do on the pitch,”

“And also, he is so professional, and he is the best example for us. He is a professional off the pitch as well. I like him a lot; he deserves to be the captain; we love him a lot.”

Two problems that Arsenal need to fix to stay ahead in the title race

Arsenal have had a fantastic week, with their lead at the top of the league table becoming stronger with each win and their main title challengers dropping points.

The goal for December should have been to keep winning, and after two games, they’ve done just that, and they can make it three in a row versus Villa.

If the wins keep coming, Arsenal will be in the strongest position to go and claim the Premier League title. Nonetheless, two factors may imperil this. These two things are David Raya’s continuous errors and their reliance on last-minute goals.

Raya almost cost Arsenal three points against Luton Town, a team they should have comfortably beaten. He gave up two silly goals that he should have avoided. His mistakes against Luton are only a few of the many that the Spaniard makes. With the Bees, he appeared to be the real deal — a goalkeeper in command of his territory — but watching him at Arsenal, he appears unstable and a weak link in Arsenal’s formidable defense.

It would be intriguing to see if Arteta sticks with Raya in goal against Villa. But if he does, I feel it will be his last opportunity to prove his case. That said, Arsenal almost won the league with Ramsdale in goal, and Arteta may need to consider playing him if his summer signing continues to struggle.

It’s Declan Rice that made “a huge difference” again in Arsenal’s win at Luton

Man City could have signed Declan Rice in the summer, but they didn’t, as Arsenal outbid them. Rice has turned out to be a fantastic signing for Arsenal; he might well end up being their best signing yet during Mikel Arteta’s reign. It is worth noting that he didn’t need time to adjust, and he didn’t struggle to provide what Arsenal’s midfield needed. He single-handedly elevated Arsenal’s midfield to world-class status.

Arteta bought him to add stability to his engine room, and he bought him to put an end to their defensive troubles in his midfield when Thomas Partey is unavailable. That said, other than as a No. 6, the ex-Hammer has also played as a box-to-box midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder. He has also scored goals, including a critical goal against Manchester United that helped Arsenal win 3-1, and he was the hero of the day on Tuesday night, scoring in the 7th minute of injury time to help Arsenal overcome Luton 4-3.

I have been going through different reviews of Rice’s impact at Arsenal, and journalist James McNicholus’ comments on Arsenal’s No. 41 have piqued my interest. While reminiscing about Rice’s influence at Arsenal, he boldly claims that Rice is the reason Arsenal is competing for the PL crown with Manchester City.

In addition to the journalist, former Premier League coach Sam Allardyce weighed in on Rice at Arsenal. He hinted at how well placed Arsenal are to fight for the title, saying on the No Tippy Tappy podcast, “They have one man who will make a huge difference in Declan Rice. A massive, massive player, so they are better prepared, and then it’s strength and depth in squad, they still have a lot of youngsters who make a contribution to their squad.”

Declan Rice has been a true game-changer for Arsenal. We can’t help but be impressed by him every time we see him in Arsenal’s colours. Without disrespect to West Ham, he simply needed a greater platform (no disrespect to West Ham) to show what a quality midfielder he is.

Eidevall says Arsenal just need to focus on playing their best to beat the Chelsea Women

Arsenal Women vs. Chelsea Women:

If you consider yourself a Gooner, you cannot afford to miss this massive WSL London derby at 12.30 on Sunday. That game has a lot on the line. No team heading into that match will want to lose because a loss could cost either club a league title shot. With the WSL title race being so tight, 3 points can deprive us a league title win.

Arsenal will be hoping that they do not lose to Chelsea, as they did not lose already this season to the other two title challengers, Manchester City, whom they defeated 1-0, and Manchester United, whom they drew 2-2.

So, what is Arsenal’s plan against Chelsea? In his pre-game press conference, Arsenal’s women’s boss, Jonas Eidevall, stated that he and his team will only focus on putting on a solid performance on Sunday. He believes that if they improve their performance, play good football, and work effectively as a team, getting the win will be simple.

Eidevall said: “Always, what you need to focus on in a football match is the performance. The performance will sort of equal into the result, but our full focus needs to be on the performance. It can never be on what it would mean to win or what it would not mean to win.

Marcus, Andy, Luke and Pete discuss Steve Cooper’s last chance saloon at Wolves and a huge showdown at Villa Park! Pete also ponders on the logistics of ‘doing an Emi Martinez’, while Marcus has penned an ode to the great man. Emi, not Pete. Join us!

You Won’t Believe What New Mexico Is About to Buy

This story was originally published by Inside Climate News and is reproduced here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration.

New Mexico will invest $500 million into purchasing water from controversial sources, including treated oilfield wastewater, as a means to bolster the state’s water portfolio. The purchases are the latest in a long-running series of deals dipping into untapped waters to shore up dwindling supplies as climate change and decades of overconsumption drive aridification of the Southwest.

The water would come from two sources: brackish saltwater, from aquifers deep underground, and produced water—wastewater from oil and gas wells. Neither source, but particularly the latter, is immediately fit for most consumptive purposes. But as traditional water supplies like rivers and groundwater aquifers are depleted in the Southwest, local and state governments are increasingly investing in new water sources to keep up economic and population growth, despite skepticism from environmentalists and water experts.

“In arid states like ours, every drop counts. A warming climate throws that fact into sharper relief every day,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in a press release Tuesday. “This is innovation in action: We’re leveraging the private sector to strengthen our climate resiliency and protect our precious freshwater resources.”

“Produced” water comes from the industry most responsible for climate-changing emissions, and can be filled with toxic chemicals.

Critics are calling the plan a handout for the fossil fuel industry that will only incentivize further drilling for oil and gas in New Mexico, where the produced water comes from, driving increased emissions of greenhouse gases to further warm the climate and dry out the region.

The War in Gaza Has Come for the Climate Movement

This story was originally published by the Guardian and is reproduced here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration.

When Greta Thunberg posted a photo of herself holding a “stand with Gaza” sign on Instagram in October, the backlash in Israel and Germany came hard and fast.

An Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson initially told Politico that “whoever identifies with Greta in any way in the future, in my view, is a terror supporter,” although later retracted his comments. The official X account of Israel said “Hamas doesn’t use sustainable materials for their rockets” and told Thunberg to speak up for its victims. The Israeli education ministry said it would strike any reference to the Swedish climate activist from its curriculum.

In Germany, politicians and pundits across the political spectrum demanded that the national branch of Fridays for Future, the student protest movement that Thunberg started in 2018, distance itself from her views. The group put out a statement underlining its support for Israel’s right to exist and, in the weeks that followed, explicitly distanced itself from social media posts made by the international group. Germany’s leading news magazine Der Spiegel ran a lengthy article with personal comments on Thunberg’s childhood character and appearance under the headline: “Has Greta Thunberg betrayed the climate movement?”

The violence in Israel and Gaza since October 7 has become an unexpected flashpoint for climate activists in rich countries. As world leaders meet for the Cop28 summit in Dubai, the loose collection of movements, many of which have built their support around inclusivity and global justice, are divided on whether or how to take a stand on the conflict.

GOP Candidates Competed Over Who’s the Most Transphobic

The four GOP candidates competed over many things at the Republican debate Wednesday night—support for Israel, fitness to lead, and how they felt about Donald Trump. But one recurring theme was which one could claim to be most anti-trans of them all.

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sparred over who took a more draconian stance on so-called bathroom bills, which prevent transgender people from using bathrooms aligned with their gender identity.

Haley pointed out that while running for governor in 2018, DeSantis once dismissed legislating the “bathroom wars” as not “a good use of our time.” DeSantis clapped back, noting that he signed a bathroom bill as governor and took Haley to task for refusing to do so herself. She claimed such a bill was unnecessary and voters weren’t asking for it.

“I stood up for little girls,” DeSantis declared. “You didn’t do it.”

Vivek Ramaswamy falsely claimed “transgenderism” is a “mental health disorder,” adding that he wants to impose a federal ban on gender-affirming care for minors.

Chris Christie Said the Quiet Part Out Loud

Chris Christie said the quiet part out loud at the fourth Republican debate Wednesday night. The dominant figure in the Republican Party—former President Donald Trump—isn’t on the debate stage, and when the debate began, nobody talked about him despite his dominance in the polls.

When the former New Jersey governor finally wrestled some airtime from his three opponents—Vivek Ramaswamy, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis—he noted that none of them had taken on Trump directly.

“We’re 17 minutes into this debate and…we’ve had these three acting as if this race is between the four of us,” Christie said. “The fifth guy, who doesn’t have the guts to show up and stand here, he’s the one who, as you just put it, is way ahead in the polls.”

“The fact is that when you go and say the truth about somebody who is a dictator, a bully, who has taken shots at everybody…then I understand why these three are timid to say anything about it,” he added, calling Trump “Voldemort, he who shall not be named.”

During his first time speaking in tonight's GOP debate, Chris Christie criticized his debate competitors and moderators for not bringing up Donald Trump or clearly denouncing the former president's falsehoods and recent comments about being a “dictator.” https://t.co/kN48tKlMMu pic.twitter.com/3aNfIwvXYK

A Texas Woman Just Had to Ask a Court to Let Her Terminate a Pregnancy That Could Kill Her

For the first time since Roe was decided in 1973, a pregnant adult is asking a court to step in so she can have an abortion.

In late November, Kate Cox received the confirmation she’d been dreading: her fetus likely wasn’t going to survive. Cox, who lives in Texas, is 20 weeks pregnant. Doctors told her continuing the pregnancy could threaten her life.

Cox is now asking a judge to grant a temporary restraining order to halt the enforcement of Texas’ near total ban so she can terminate her pregnancy. “Kate Cox needs an abortion,” reads the first line of Cox’ petition, “and she needs it now.”

Cox is represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights. The organization is currently arguing in the Texas Supreme Court that pregnant people with medical complications have not been receiving proper care in the state. As I have previously reported, that case is about situations like the one Cox is experiencing right now in which vague exceptions to abortion bans undermine clarity of care:

[Texas’] law calls for “reasonable medical judgment” and permits abortion if the patient could die or if they’re at “serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function.” The lawsuit argues this language is too vague and dangerous for pregnant people and providers.

Biden Condemns “Horrific Accounts” of Rape of Israeli Girls and Women

President Biden condemned accounts of rape and sexual violence reportedly perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli girls and women, stating that “the world can’t just look away at what’s going on.”

Biden made the comments at a campaign fundraiser in Boston on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press, adding that the world must condemn “without equivocation” and “without exception” the “horrific accounts of unimaginable cruelty” shared by survivors over the past few weeks.

“Reports of women raped—repeatedly raped—and their bodies being mutilated while still alive—of women corpses being desecrated, Hamas terrorists inflicting as much pain and suffering on women and girls as possible and then murdering them,” Biden said, according to the AP. “It is appalling.”

Hamas has denied allegations of sexual assault.

Biden’s comments come as evidence of sexual atrocities perpetrated by Hamas mounts and officials increasingly demand an investigation.

Trump Says He Won’t Be a Dictator… “Except for Day One”

Donald Trump’s long history of telling on himself continues with the admission of his authoritarian aspirations.

The startling confession came on Tuesday during a town hall with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, during which the former president was asked whether he’d seek revenge on his political enemies if elected again to the White House. Trump responded that he would not be a dictator—”except for day one.”

Hannity asks Trump for a second time if he has plans to abuse power. Trump admits he plans to do some dictatorial things on "day one" of his second term. pic.twitter.com/51b9I8bIJ7

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) December 6, 2023

“I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump continued, clarifying what issues he would assume in the role of dictator. “Other than that, I am not a dictator.”

Chaos is the answer

Arsenal went to Kenilworth Road and stole the points! Just like Aaron Ramsdale’s dad stole Arsenal’s Christmas decorations...

After a brilliant game of football Marcus, Jim, Vish and Andy are here to explain why chaos is the answer for Luton Town going forward.

They then all agree that chaos is definitely NOT the answer for Man United ahead of a potentially season-defining clash with Chelsea tonight and celebrate the FC Twente fan that successfully carried 64 beers back to his seat. Plus, is Chris Wilder the answer for Sheffield United? He knows the club, after all.
